Community Public Radio

July 17, 2011

Just want to let folks know about another gem that a fellow blogger and Mt. Kisco resident Jeff Kent told me about. It is a community public radio station for the lower Hudson Valley. The station is WDFH-FM 90.3. It is a not-for-profit; commercial free and locally programed station (It can be heard worldwide at www.WDFH.org). Selected local programs are available on demand as well as podcasts from the website.

There is a mix of music including (rock, Jazz, blues and folk) and even some music from local artists can be heard. In addition to music there is local news and public affairs programming. Because this is a public radio station it relies on support from listeners, corporations and local businesses. It is registered as a 501 (c) so all donations are tax deductible!

One of the Public Affairs shows that caught my eye is called Village Green. This show builds awareness and promotes grassroots efforts in the area of energy use, alternative energy sources, food, local farming, water,
land use and more eco-friendly personal habits. Last week’s guest was the Executive Chef of the Flying Pig, Lesley Sutter. She spoke about how she creates a direct line from farm to table.

Currently in development is a new issues-oriented program that will soon give voice to LGBT youth Sounds like it will be a terrific program to help give kids a creative outlet. If you would like further information on
programing or volunteering please check them out on their web-site or call them at 914-674-0900.
