Coyote Attacks Dog in Mt Kisco

September 26, 2011

A Coyote attacked and killed a dog this afternoon around lunch time on the Leonard Park Trails. The owner took his dog for his afternoon walk on the hiking trails. The Boston Terrier was off the leash and ran ahead. When the owner called for the dog to come back and he didn’t return he went searching for him. He found the dog unresponsive and bleeding by a rock.

The vet was unable to save the dog and said that it was definitely a Coyote attack. The vet estimated that the animal was at least 60lbs. This isn’t the first time that Coyotes have attacked in Westchester, but it is the first time I have heard of one in Leonard Park. Earlier this year in lower Westchester there were several situations where the animals attacked children.

Please be alert! I will keep you posted as new information is made available.

It’s ironic that your web site has a picture of the Teahouse at Leonard Park on it, as the attack on my Dog was about 100 yrds. directly behind the Teahouse.

Carol I am so sorry to hear about your dogs. I hope they are doing better. Was the attack during the day? I agree – more should be done to alert the public
