Discount Borders Books?

August 19, 2011

What the heck is going on with Borders in Mt Kisco? I was there last night and couldn’t believe what I saw. My first clue something was askew was the sign on the front door stating that ‘New merchandise was arriving daily’. As I entered the store I could see isles of ‘Stuff’, not books but stuff all over. There were perfume bottles, robes, comforters, toys and board games (Monopoly, battle ship and others). The items seemed so out of place. This was no longer the Borders I knew and loved.

What’s going on? Is Borders turning into a ‘Discount/Close out- retailor’? Let me know what you think.

I believe Borders has been taken over by a liquidator. it’s their job to get rid of as much inventory as possible. Sometimes they bring in other items to dump.

You are probably correct Jeff – but really tacky looking. Borders is gone already in my mind.

I think it is a good place to get your significant other a christmas or birthday gift

Well if she likes baby blankets, then that is the place – Can’t say I heard of many of those perfume brands though!

I went last night too. I thought I had walked into Mothercare! They are also no longer accepting Borders rewards cards. I looked at a couple of books but some were getting so tatty. They might do better to honour the rewards cards thus getting rid of stuff faster. It’s a sad sight.

What I really think about all this stuff that is being brought in, is how much mass produced stuff there is. There is so much poverty in the world (Somalia – which doesn’t seem to make it onto the news these days) and almost one wall of the shop was dedicated to all this stuff. How many blankets (which are all exactly the same) do people need? Surely there could be a better cause for these things. There are plenty of charities which could make good use of these things.

Maybe they should cut their losses and move on. It’s going to look like a jumble sale soon!

      I agree – I felt un-easy walking in there last night – I don’t think I will go back

I’ll only go back when they hit their rock bottom prices.
