WDFHPacifica Network Adds Westchester Public Radio to App

Now, listening to the unique music and programming broadcast by the
lower Hudson valley’s only public radio station has become even easier.

(WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY) – Westchester Public Radio, WDFH FM 90.3 can now
be heard via Pacifica Radio Network’s new Mobile App. It is available for
both iPhone and Android so residents in Westchester and surrounding
communities can listen to Pacifica stations anywhere using a cellphone or
WiFi signal. This month, the nationwide radio network called attention to
WDFH as its Featured Station of the Month.

“At a time when our station is fighting for survival, this is a wonderful
boost. For listeners unable to receive our broadcast signal and for those
who prefer to listen “on the go,” this offers another way to tune in
through your favorite mobile device,” said Marc Sophos, founder and
executive director for the local station.

According to Pacifica, the iPhone app will run on any iPhone, iPad, iPad
mini, and iPod Touch with iOS 5.0 or higher installed. Streaming and
connection speed will vary from phone to phone and depending on your
connectivity. Some stations may take up to a minute to begin streaming on
some Android phones.

A volunteer-operated, nonprofit and non-commercial public radio station,
WDFH FM 90.3 and WDFH.org is struggling to raise funds to cover basic
operating expenses and build an audience. Because of these financial
difficulties, the station’s future is uncertain.

A Pacifica Radio Network affiliate, WDFH is the lower Hudson valley’s
on-air source for Democracy Now! and Free Speech Radio News, along with
other carefully selected programs from independent producers. Its
broadcast signal can be heard at 90.3 FM in central and northern
Westchester, eastern Rockland, southern Putnam, and far western
Connecticut. WDFH.org offers a variety of online listening options that
include streaming audio and podcasts, including other options for
listening on mobile devices.

WDFH plays a freeform mix of rock, folk, blues, and jazz from a library of
more than 100,000 recordings. It produces OutCasting, public radio’s only
program specifically giving voice to LGBTQ youth issues. Other programs
include For the Greater Good, which spotlights local nonprofits and the
important work they do; the local news discussion program In Focus; and
Recovery Talk, which focuses on recovery from illness, addiction, trauma,
domestic violence, and more.

WDFH is owned and operated by Hudson Valley Community Radio, Inc., a local
nonprofit corporation that is 501(c)(3) tax-exempt. All donations, whether
from an individual or a business, are fully tax deductible.

The App is available as a free download from the Apple App Store and the
Google Play Store. The new app enables listeners to:

• Access live streaming of Pacifica’s Public Radio Stations
• Read and listen to news and stories from around the Pacifica network
• View video clips
• Obtain info about Pacifica and interact with other listeners
• Share stories, articles and your comments to popular social networking
