Woof-n-Wash Pet Grooming

February 20, 2011

It is hard to believe but Woof-n-Wash will be celebrating its fourth anniversary in June of this year. I stumbled upon the place after becoming dissatisfied with other groomers in the area. As soon as I walked into the shop I could tell it was different. It was decorated like a hip NYC salon rather than your typical pet grooming shop. It had an open airy clean look and no lingering pet odors. I liked the fact that they had large open pens rather than cages to hold my dogs. I have taken my two dogs to Woof-n-Wash for the past three years.

The shop is owned by Jason and a silent partner. The staff includes Erica, Jarred, Kim and Doug (the in house canine). It doesn’t matter who takes care of your pet, they are all equally kind, gentle and knowledgeable with your precious family member.

I happen to have a Pug who freaks out when it comes time to cut her nails. Jason cradles her under his one arm and walks her around the shop – distracting her while he files her nails with the other. I can’t think of many other places that would take the time to do that. If you have a dog or cat that requires special attention – this is the place to go. The staff prides themselves in the care they give to senior, hard to handle and just plain neurotic pets. They will do whatever it takes to make your pets experience as stress free as possible, even going into the pens with the animals to help them relax.

If you are feeling a little more adventurous then you might like to wash your pet yourself. This isn’t a problem because Woof-N-wash is the only self wash facility in the area where you can wash your own dog. They have large bathing stalls that are fully stocked with everything you’ll need from shampoo to towels. The tubs are at comfort height for the humans and temperature controlled for the dogs. For safety they have tie outs and hand held shower heads with pressure control. If your pet is too heavy to lift into the stall then you can use one of their heavy duty ramps to assist you.

Here are some things to know if you are thinking about going to Woof-N-Wash:

  • They do not accept walk-ins for grooming
  • Owner wash needs no appointment
  • Book one week in advance if possible
  • Closed Mondays – open Sundays
  • Your dog must be vaccinated against Kennel Cough
  • It is important to be on time to keep things moving smoothly
  • They now have a private room for Cats

So the next time your Pooch or Kitty needs some grooming be sure to check out Woof-N-Wash you’ll both be glad.

The shop is open Tue-Sat 9to5, sun 11-4 Contact them at 914-358-4295 or visit them on Facebook
