A & S Market Place opens in Mount Kisco
I heard a lot of buzz around town about a new Italian Gourmet market that opened up, A&S Marketplace. From what I heard I decided I had to check it out myself. Oh My – all I can say is- if you haven’t already been there – get there! When you walk in you are immediately greeted by the aroma of fresh home-made cooking, your taste buds will surely be awakened.
The second thing you will notice is how clean and well organized the store is. Your eyes will feast on all the cases and shelves filled with fresh food. They have a butcher with fine meats and poultry. Theyhave fresh fish, pasta and homemade salads galore. They even sell authentic Bronx bread – unbelievably delicious with a little olive oil or some roasted peppers (I have a soft spot since I was born and raised in the Bronx)!
Don’t forget to try something from the hot steam table.Oh and whatever you do don’t leave the store without trying some of their home-made Mozzarella – it is incredibly delicious!
I spoke with one of the owners’ Marilyn Competiello. She told me that opening this store is like a “dream come true” for her. She has worked for others in the past but this is “all hers”. I asked how the last couple of weeks have been since they opened on the 22nd of December. She said it has been crazy – in a good way. The people ofMount Kisco have been so warm and welcoming and have spread the word about the place. Marilyn said that they still have to work out a few kinks but otherwise things were going well. She hopes to soon be able to fax daily lunch specials and deliver to businesses in the area. I spoke with a few people from Mt Kisco Medical Group who can’t wait till they deliver.
While walking around the store I was able to speak to a few people. Lisa G. from Kisco said she absolutely “loves” the store and buys all the fresh ingredients to make her own lasagna. She said that they make a really good tomato sauce. I spoke with Randi Sperber fromKisco who told me that she bought some homemade mozzarella last week that “melted” in her mouth. She also raved about the chicken scarpariello stating that it was “bursting with flavor” and very reasonably priced. Today she was shopping for some olives (they have an incredible assortment).
Marilyn owns the store with her friends Paul Cortese and JohnCioffi. You can also catch Marilyn’s son Anthony working behind the counter.
I forgot to mention that they also do catering. They will becatering their first wedding on the 16th of this month.
